Facebook Chat

FACEBOOK INSTANT MESSAGING

Who else is very excited about this?
My friend is an MIT alum (so of course she gets to use the Beta version before the rest of us) and so I got to see the new chat feature. It's actually really nice and super convenient. A little box just follows at the bottom of any screen on facebook. The box tells you who's online and lets you just click on it.

I can't wait until the real chat is released to all the rest of us. It just might be the death of AIM as we know it.

I hadn't heard of this yet but it really is a good idea! I'm not so big on AIM anymore because people always change their screen names, and I don't always remember to log on. This definately seems like a way more convenient way to catch up with people instead of messaging them everytime you just want to say hi.

This is a really awesome idea. But I am scared this will start some privacy issues, because some people do not have Facebook, and I don’t want them near my profile. I like the whole distance that aim gives you from the person that you are messaging. Hopefully they think this through, and don't make this just a application that will spam me.

I mean, it totally makes sense considering so many of us stay logged into Facebook for the duration of our time spent online. Like Melanie said, I tend to forget about AIM pretty frequently, but I pretty much never forget to check my Facebook!

It seems to me like a calculated effort to get you to stay on the site for longer periods of time. Time = money. Of course, it's also a service offering the consumer convenience. so it could be a win-win.

I don't know about you, but I don't always want everyone to know when I'm on Facebook. Sometimes it is my alone time.
